Tennessee Central Excursion Train Makes First Stop at DelMonaco Winery & Vineyards
The Nashville excursion train made a special stop on Saturday October 17th at DelMonaco Winery & Vineyard in Baxter, Tennessee just before making its regular stop in Cookeville. Jim Hall, President of Nashville Chapter, Volunteer #135 of the Delta Nu Alpha Organization had an additional passenger car added to this week's train ride. This ride was part of the organization's annual fund raising effort. Approximately 50 folks supporting Delta Nu Alpha enjoyed a visit at the Winery. Delta Nu Alpha (DNA) is a national organization of professional men and women in all areas and at all levels of transportation and logistics. Jim Hall stated ‘The cornerstone of DNA's success is its emphasis on education, financial assistance and mentoring for students. We also provide excellent continuing education opportunities for the work force and vigilance in communicating changes in regulations.’ In addition to a strong international organization, DNA has chapters in locales all across the continent.

Several years ago, the local chapter hosted the National Conference and raised enough money to honor one of their life time members, Mr. Les Overton, by establishing a scholarship fund in his honor. Ever since then, the Nashville chapter has an annual fund raising effort to keep this fund alive. The past four events have included the Tennessee Central Railway Museum and Mr. Gordon Smith. Jim Hall also said ‘Our train rides have proven to be very successful ventures and everyone seems to enjoy them and look forward to them. We have done the Watertown train a couple of times, Cookeville, TN, the time before this was the trip to Monterey and this is another first for our group to be able to come to Baxter, TN.’
As visitors got off the train, they were greeted by owners Barbara and David DelMonaco before enjoying a free wine tasting, shopping, lunch and a scavenger hunt designed to allow all to stretch their legs. During their two-hour visit, they also received a donation from DelMonaco Winery & Vineyards to support their fund raising efforts. As they re-boarded the train, the group thanked the DelMonaco crew for a great time and expressed a desire to have the train stop there again in the future.
